So I must say I went to the new PX today, because I was curious and I wanted to get more Bath and Body Works…SHOCKED, that is one word to describe my look! June 19, Fort Belvoir celebrated the grand opening of its new 270,000 square foot Exchange. The new AAFES facility is the largest branded store in the (CONUS) United States and incorporates the main store, food court, home and garden, military clothing sales, concessions and a satellite pharmacy all in one shopping complex. IT IS A DREAM come true, so a while back when we first got here, I blogged about how the PX lacked in style and it never compares to the Marine Exchange! The toy department sucked, and as well as a few other things…well not anymore!
WELL they knocked the ball out of the park today! I LOVE that store, it has sleek, modern up to date furniture, electronics, clothes, etc and that’s just the PX. Inside right when you walk in there are a host of stores you can shop from, it is like a mini mall on the base. The food court has: Starbucks, Subway, Pizza Hut, Popeye’s Chicken and Charley’s Grilled Subs, Burger King, and Taco Bell moved over from the old PX.
The new PX is also doing great things in terms of sustainability, Energy and Environmental Design Silver rated. “The rating took into account the 958 space parking lot, made of previous concrete, a special type of concrete with a high porosity that allows water from precipitation and other sources to pass directly through, thereby reducing the runoff from a site and allowing groundwater recharge.” (Fort Belvoir Eagle). What are they going to do with the old PX? What will that building be used for?
Let me just say, you have impressed this “Army Wife”, it is spacious, clean, the isles are large, and you don’t have to play chicken with the shopping carts…I love it and they have a TON more items than before. This store has renewed my faith in Army Store Planners, and there are no more random jewelry carts/stations blocking the front entrance to the PX. So you will be seeing me MORE at Fort Belvoir since it is closer to me, now only if USAA would put a ATM that accepts deposits on Belovir I wouldn’t have to go and fight the HOV ending closure traffic… however Quantico does have a different selection of items at their BX, and I suggest you checking them both out! I love both bases…
